During the National Cancer Prevention and Treatment Awareness Week, the Institute of Nutrition, Fudan University, together with the Fudan University Shanghai Cancer Center, the School of Wushu at Shanghai University of Sport, the Eighth People's Hospital, the Caohejing Subdistrict of Xuhui District, and the Yinhang Subdistrict of Yangpu District, launched a new "diet–exercise–psychology" integrated model for cancer prevention and treatment.

Scientific Diet: Making Nutrition the "First Prescription" for Cancer Prevention

On April 21, the Institute of Nutrition together with the Caohejing Subdistrict, the Fudan University Shanghai Cancer Center, the Sports Rehabilitation Committee of the China Anti-Cancer Association, and the Rehabilitation Management Committee of the Shanghai Anti-Cancer Association, jointly held a National Cancer Prevention and Treatment Awareness Week event themed "Scientific Cancer Prevention, Healthy Living" at the Caoxi Community Service Center. The event featured three main segments—popular science lectures, oncology free clinics, and knowledge surveys—forming a closed-loop service of "prevention–screening–treatment–rehabilitation," helping residents shift from passive treatment to proactive health management

Cancer Prevention Workshop

Professor Cheng Wenwu, Director of the Department of Comprehensive Treatment at the Fudan University Shanghai Cancer Center, shared "50 Delicious and Effective Anti-Cancer Dishes," teaching community residents how to prepare anti-cancer dishes that are both tasty and healthy through on-site cooking demonstrations combined with ingredient explanations. Professor Peng Junjie, Director of the Department of Comprehensive Colorectal Cancer Treatment at the Fudan University Shanghai Cancer Center, addressed the dietary management challenges of colorectal cancer patients by sharing "Dietary Considerations for the Prevention and Rehabilitation of Colorectal Cancer." Professor Xue Kun from the Institute of Nutrition, Fudan University, shared "The Secret to Longevity in Simple Fare: Dietary Wisdom for Disease Prevention and Health Preservation in Older Adults," covering perspectives such as the nutritional needs of older adults, the selection of staple foods, and dietary prevention of chronic diseases.

Oncology Prevention and Treatment Free Clinic

A free clinic team was jointly formed by Professor Peng Professor Ling Yiqun, Director of the Department of Nutrition, Professor Zong Geng from the Institute of Nutrition, Fudan University, and experts from the cancer center and Longhua Hospital. The team provided residents with one-stop services including interpretation of cancer screening results, formulation of nutritional intervention plans, and rehabilitation and nursing guidance. A dedicated consultation window for high-risk populations was specially set up, and personalized health management records were established.

Nutrition and Health Survey

The team from the Institute of Nutrition, Fudan University, conducted a survey on the nutritional status and cancer prevention knowledge of residents in the Caohejing community. Through scientific questionnaires and body composition analysis, they assessed the correlation between nutritional intake and cancer risk in the community population, providing data support for the subsequent formulation of community health intervention policies. Participating residents received customized dietary recommendations and nutrition reports.

Exercise Rehabilitation: Multidisciplinary Integration to Help Cancer Patients Rebuild Physical Fitness

At the Yinhang Community Sports and Health Center, experts in fields such as surgical oncology, nursing, nutrition, psychology, and exercise rehabilitation from multiple hospitals provided free clinics for community residents and cancer patients in the rehabilitation phase.

At the on-site discussion meeting on community-based exercise rehabilitation for cancer patients, experts from the Institute of Nutrition, the Fudan University Shanghai Cancer Center, community officials from two subdistricts, the School of Wushu at Shanghai University of Sport, the Eighth People's Hospital, the Caohejing Subdistrict Community Health Service Center, the Yinhang Subdistrict Community Health Service Center, and the community held a thematic discussion on "Community-Based Rehabilitation for Cancer Patients," focusing on the community implementation of exercise rehabilitation, nutrition management, and psychosocial support prescriptions.

Psychological Support: Comprehensive Psychological Care to the Safeguard of Physical and Mental Health

With the development of the "biological–psychological–social" medical model, community-based cancer prevention and treatment systems are accelerating their transformation from single-modality diagnosis and treatment toward full-cycle health management covering prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation. The Fudan University Shanghai Cancer Center has been deeply engaged in the field of mental health services for 12 years, with an ever-growing service team, and has extended its services to community health service centers in Xuhui District and Yangpu District, serving as an intelligent steward of mental health for community-based cancer patients.

Fighting cancer is not only a matter of advancing medical technology but also a reshaping of lifestyle. Tertiary hospitals, district-level hospitals, and primary-level institutions are working together to apply the "hospital–community–family" linkage model, jointly helping multidimensional, full-lifecycle cancer prevention concepts and measures truly integrate into residents' daily lives.
