History
Fudan University is one of the earliest institutions in China to establish a nutrition discipline. Its origins can be traced back to the nutrition and hygiene discipline established in 1952, making it one of the earliest teaching and research units in nutrition in the country, and also one of the earliest master's degree programs in nutrition and food hygiene in China. Its public nutrition, clinical nutrition, and food safety are all in a leading position in China. Over more than 70 years of disciplinary development, it has always taken serving the country and the people as its mission, addressing the educational, research, and science popularization needs of the nation and the people in nutrition, food safety, and sanitary chemistry. From the period of the Public Health Department of the National Shanghai Medical College (1928–1952) to the present, many renowned Chinese nutrition experts have graduated from and worked here, such as Xiaoshu Chen, Dadao Xu,Shili Peng, Qipei Liu, Rendun Chen, Yufen Shao, and others. They have offered advice and suggestions for the country's food and nutrition development and actively promoted the Chinese nutrition community onto the international stage. In 2023, the Fudan University nutrition team was awarded the honorary title of Fudan University "Zhong Yang-Style" Research Team for its profound professional knowledge and outstanding achievements. Fudan Nutrition not only upholds the dedication of its predecessors but will also continue to explore and innovate, playing an important role in scientific research, policy recommendations, and international cooperation, promoting the continuous progress and development of nutrition science in China, and making greater contributions to improving the people's health level and nutritional quality.

Development & Advantages
The Institute of Nutrition, Fudan Univeristy, is a university-level nutrition research entity established in 2023. The Institute closely aligns with the national "14th Five-Year Plan" outline and the 2035 long-range goals, focusing on national needs such as the prevention and control of major chronic diseases and the promotion of healthy aging. With population-based nutrition research as its core developmental focus, it centers on four research directions: nutritional epidemiology and data science, clinical nutrition, basic nutrition, and food safety and food policy. It consolidates the advanced strengths of relevant institutions within the university and builds an international top-tier talent team for nutrition science research. The Institute is currently establishing a globally influential nutrition science integrated innovation center and a national-level nutrition big data analysis and research platform. With nutrition science at its center, it extends into public health, clinical medicine, health policy, ecological agriculture, food science, and cultural studies. By promoting the integrated innovation of nutrition science with medicine, humanities, and science and engineering disciplines, it catalyzes multidisciplinary intersection and interdisciplinary research methods, and undertakes major international, national, and local research projects.
